Hello. Parasites are any organisms that live on the body & can cause irritation, infection, or other disease. Fleas, ticks, mites & lice live on the outside of the body. Parasitic worms, coccidia, giardia & others are parasites that can cause diarrhea, weight loss, bleeding & other problems inside the body, primarily in the intestines. Treatment depends on what you have. The easiest way to approach this is to take Bun Bun to your vet for a thorough exam of the outside for skin parasites, & then a stool check to see what parasites may be present in the intestines. Rabbits can be very sensitive to drugs & medications so it is always best to treat correctly & not guess & endanger her health. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

There are not specific products for rabbits. Only certain cat products can be used on rabbits and it requires precise dosing based upon the body weight. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is likely due to an ear infection. How often you use these depends on which of the tabs you are referring to. I would check the product instructions and follow that. I recommend that you have Oreo evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Your veterinarian would be able to check what type of infection is present and treat accordingly. Usually this resolves with topical therapy. Good luck and have a good day!

It is never advisable to take on an unwell pet, especially if you have other pets at home or are unable to provide the healthcare they require as and when needed. My pet bunny has Eimeria and diarrhea. What's the best treatment?

Eimeria is a species of coccidia. You will need to use a coccidiostatic medication to get rid of these. The ones that come to mind that you can obtain over the counter include amprolium, corid, and albon. I am not able to provide you with dosage on here, but you should be able to locate this information within a veterinary formulary or through a vet with which you already have an established relationship.

My rabbit is rapidly losing weight, weak, and has diarrhea. Help!

It sounds like they could have a parasite or an infection causing the problem. It is very concerning that they both lost weight rapidly and one died. It would be best to have her examined by a vet to determine the cause and treat. Your vet can run some lab-work, if needed, and prescribe medications to treat. She may need some fluids for dehydration, antibiotics, de-wormer, etc. Besides trying to get her to eat and drink, there isn't much more you can do without veterinary care. Hope she gets better soon!

You will have to treat Prince with a rabbit safe flea treatment, flea treat any other animals in the house, and you have to disinfect the environment as well. Advantage is safe to use on rabbits. To disinfect the environment, wash his bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home. I hope this helps!
