Baby rabbit has diarrhea, bloated stomach. Can I treat it at home?

It sounds like they could have a parasite or an infection causing the problem. It is very concerning that they both lost weight rapidly and one died. It would be best to have her examined by a vet to determine the cause and treat. Your vet can run some lab-work, if needed, and prescribe medications to treat. She may need some fluids for dehydration, antibiotics, de-wormer, etc. Besides trying to get her to eat and drink, there isn't much more you can do without veterinary care. Hello. There are just too many questions that need to be answered in order to offer any advice. The best thing is to have your bunny examined by a veterinarian who can check Laddu for intestinal parasites, discuss the diet you are feeding her & possibly start her on a Critical Care diet & possibly antibiotics. Yes, very dangerous. first of all do not shake your rabbit, this is not something you should do it can harm her. secondly diarrhea in rabbits can be fatal, as a matter of fact it usually is if left untreated. you need to take her to the vet as soon as you can in order to get treatment, she will need a course of antibiotics as well as fiber supplements in order to get better.

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Make sure Penelope's diet is proper. stop all leafy greens & fresh vegetables. She should have no more than 1/4 cup of fresh rabbit pellets, & a body size pile of timothy hay. Tomorrow, take a sample of her stool for analysis to your vet. They will see if she has any intestinal parasites including coccidia. Based on this, your vet may recommend putting her on a diet of Critical care to increase fiber, or if she needs antibiotics. Poor Thumper! Diarrhea in rabbits is cause for concern as it can be caused by bacterial disturbances which can be life-threatening. The stress of a new environment, diet change, and possibly not eating/drinking for a while may have caused this. I recommend keeping a very close eye on Thumper and having him seen by a vet immediately if he has diarrhea again, loses his appetite, or is lethargic. He may need antibiotics and supportive care to get better.

Diahrrea is a serious symptom in rabbits, i strongly recommend taking him to the vet ASAP in order to get it checked and treated, he will need several medications to help stopping the diarrhea that is probably caused by a gastrointestinal infection.

Hi and thank you for your question, Diarrhea is a serious problem in a rabbit and should be treated ASAP. Usually, in a mature rabbit true diarrhea is caused either by offering it food to high in carbohydrates or by treating it with antibiotics that are not safe for them. As to the sneezing, this could be caused by an upper respiratory infection but also by physical irritation (e.g. by dust in the air). I strongly suggest that you have Bunnicula examined by a vet.
