My rabbit's friend passed away. Should I get him a new companion?

I am sorry for your loss. I would recommend just making sure she has enough to play with and interactions with you. Not all rabbit pair bond well. So it is possible if you get a new rabbit rica might not get along with it. Rabbits like to play and interact These are important to prevent behavioral issues. Hope that helps

If Donut is not content on her own then now would be an appropriate time to consider introducing another rabbit for company. Unneutered females can be aggressive however and it can require some time and patience to introduce a new pair and neutering Donut may be worthwhile considering to ease such transition if you are not breeding her

Sorry about the loss of your rabbit. I would be very careful about putting two rabbits in together. It should be a low transition and supervised. Some rabbits will not pair /bond with other rabbits. They will hurt each other. However some rabbits will do great. Just go slow and monitor closely

I am sorry to hear about your female. In general, it doesn't matter too much as long as you are planning on getting them spayed and neutered, and as long as they are about the same size. I would agree that rabbits definitely do better in pairs. If you do not intend on getting them spayed / neutered, I would not have two adult in tact males together due to the largest chance of fighting. Also, if you have an intact male and female together, I don't think I need to tell you what the result will be ultimately!

I'm sorry about the loss of your bun. Rabbits do tend to do better in pairs, but it has to be a slow and gradual process to see if two rabbits will become a bonded pair. I would suggest talking to your local rescue to see if they would work with you to find her a partner. Rabbits tend to have longer, healthier lives inside - so I would recommend turning her into a house rabbit with or without a partner. I'm so sorry you lost your guinea pig, please accept my condolences for your loss. Parsley may be just fine, he may not even be aware of it. I'd hold off on getting another companion for now, as that may stress him out. Just keep an eye on it, and if you notice a decrease in appetite or activity, those can be signs another companion can be needed. Give him lots of love and attention. Again, I'm sorry.

I am so sorry that you lost your other bunny. I can understand that this is hard for you and for Sugar as well. It is normal for one pet to grieve when another has passed away. This can be a very stressful time for your rabbit. The biggest concern is that she’s not eating well. A rabbit that stops eating is at risk for developing gastric stasis which can be very painful and possible life-threatening condition. Continue doing your best to encourage her to eat and drink. Offer her her favorite snacks and treats if that is all she will take for now. Try to interact with her and pay more attention to her than you usually do to help comfort her. If she continues to not want to eat you may want to look into getting a critical care diet for herbivores such as Oxbow Critical Care to help supplement her eating. If she goes for more than 24 hours without eating then you should take her to the vet to help prevent gastric stasis from occurring. Again, I am so sorry for your loss. I hope this helps.
