My rabbit ate banana and orange peel from the trash. Will she be okay?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Female | spayed | 9 months and 12 days old | 3.5 lbs

When I came home, my rabbit was out of her cage, and the room is not very bunny proof. I checked her over and she has a chunk of hair missing which I guess was ripped out by my other female (who is in a cage). I also discovered my rubbish bin tipped over with bits of banana skin and orange peel on the floor. I think she may have ingested quite a bit of it, will she be okay? When she tries to rest she seems to be a little fidgety which isn't usual. I have no idea what else she could've eaten.

The biggest concern would be that she ate something she shouldn’t have thatcan’t be digested. If so, she may have a blockage or get gastric stasis.

Keep a close eye on Mistie over the next day or two. If she stops eating, drinking or pooping, or if she becomes more lethargic than normal you will need to take her to see a vet.
