My older pet mouse has a tumor. What should I do and do I need a vet?

i just noticed a tumor on my older pet mouse and i dont really know what to do or if my family will allow me to take her to a vet or even if there are any near me that could help

Tumors are very common in pet rodents. There is nothing you can do about it to treat it at home. You will need to take her to a vet. You can try calling this vet clinic:

Hello, & thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center. I am so sorry about your mouse, Gizmo. You do not mention how old she is, but as you probably know, mice only live about 2 years. They are very prone to some tumor viruses, so with their very short life span will be very predisposed to developing cancer. I wish I could offer some hope, but even with veterinary care, if the tumor is malignant, nothing much can be done. Keep her as comfortable as possible, spoil her as much as you can, & hopefully you can keep her comfortable for the rest of the time she has left. All the best.

Unfortunately there is nothing you can do to help her with this condition, as you mentioned tumor removal might be the only option although i am not sure it would be indicated in her current condition, just keep her comfortable and when she seems to be deteriorating , take her to the vet for euthanasia.

Poor Oreo. Unfortunately at this age it is common for them to develop masses or tumors. There is no good home remedy to make them go away. I would have your vet look at it to see if it could be surgically removed if needed. Your vet should be able to look st it and let you know if this is cancerous, benign, or an infection. Your vet can also prescribe some pain medicine if ou feel he is uncomfortable. I hope this helps.

Thanks for reaching out about Yuki and including photos. Lumps such as this can be abscesses or tumors. Each requires a veterinary visit to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. Unfortunately there is little that can be done from home. Monitor her for appetite and activity. Sometimes, local rescue groups with assist with veterinary but you would have to contact them. I would recommend having Peachy examined by a vet. Mice can develop tumors just like humans, and with the small size of their body, it can be some obviously large very quickly. A vet will do an exam and determine if this is the case. If it is, they can discuss treatment options and help you watch out for signs of decreasing quality of life.

My mouse has a new, moveable bump on her neck. What should I do?

Thanks for your question about Tiny, and thank you for the photos - they are very helpful. Based on the location on the mass, and how fast it has come on, I would be concerned that it could be an infection, or potentially a tumor. I would recommend taking Tiny into a veterinarian. They can perform an examination, and can put a needle into the mass, remove some cells, and put the cells under the microscope for evaluation. Depending on what they find, they may have medications that they can prescribe (for example, antibiotics if it is an infection). Please don’t give any human medications to Tiny, as many of them are harmful to our furry friends. I hope that gives you a place to start, and that Tiny feels better soon.

My pet mouse has a red, open sore on its back and is losing hair.

First of all, Maizy looks more like a rat in the picture, unless she is an extremely large mouse. the lesions looks like a wound at the moment, but if it started as a lump it could be an abscess or a tumor. you will have to take her to an exotic vet specialist to get this checked and treated, if it is an infection she will need a course of antibiotics in order to heal properly.
