My mouse is peeing a lot. Could this be a symptom of a health issue?

This usually isn't normal. He could have a urinary tract infection, diabetes or other type of problem. I would have your vet take a look at him. Since he is so small I want to make sure he isn't going to become dehydrated. If something is causing him to drink a lot then chances are his body isn't able to keep up with his hydration. Your vet will be able to do an exam, assess hduration, and do blood work if needed. I hope this helps!

He may have developed another condition in addition to his kidney disease. Thyroid disorders and diabetes can both affect urine production or his kidney disease may have worsened. In the meantime, keep him in a small room with his food and water and his litter box. Place the food and water as far away from the box as possible. Keep him in the room only when he is unsupervised to encourage him to use the box. Otherwise keep him out and give him plenty of attention. Do not resist access to water as there may be a metabolic reason causing him to drink more which is resulting in increased urination. I hope this information helps!

Thanks for reaching out abut Fizz. Besides being dehydrated and replenishing water content, renal, hepatic and diabetes are not uncommon in gerbils. If persists, a veterinary visit is recommended. A urine dipstick should not be very expensive and can provide some useful information. Good luck.

Hi, I would definitely have Kitty checked over. Poliuria can be a sign of many things, like a urinary tract infection, early kidney disease, early diabetes, Cushing’s and many more ! Hopefully it is nothing to worry about , as she is very lively and fit. However best to rule out everything that if not picked up early could worsen rapidly over the course of time.
