My hamster's testicles are swollen after eating cranberry sauce. Help!

I am sorry to hear about your hamster. Unfortunately we can see testicular tumors or cancer in male hamsters, so if one testicle is larger thant he other I would be concerned. If the testical is painful or turning color another possibility would be a testicular torsion, where the testical twists inside the skin cutting off the blood supply. I would recommend having a vet examine him to help determine the cause and they can recommend treatment if available. Best of luck to you!

That is extremely swollen! I suggest you try to ice that area (scrotum) for five minutes three times per day. But, if does not get less swollen in a couple days then you need to get him to a vet ASAP. Really, he should see vet now. That really does not look like swelling due to trauma to me...

Depending on how old Titus is, the reason for one testicle being larger than the other might be different. I would say that it would be in your best interest to have him examined for evidence of either a testicular infection or a possible testicular tumor. If there is a tumor, neutering might be curative. If there is an infection, the use of antibiotics would be beneficial and possibly curative. Hope this helps.

I am not sure how warm it has become in your house, but I think that what you have done is a good place to start. Hamsters are most comfortable when housed between 65-75F, so if it was warmer than this, it can cause them to not want to burrow. Since you also feel like his testicles may be more swollen, I would recommend watching these closely for changes. They may be hanging lower and appear larger due to the heat, but once you have cooled the temperature in your house, they should go back to a normal position. If they continue to appear swollen, or if the activity levels continue to be abnormal, I would recommend having Ralphie evaluated by a veterinarian. Thanks for reaching out. Could this be a bite wound from the other hamster? The dark skin is probably necrotic (dead) dermis. It could be an abscess. Infections should be treated with systemic antibiotics and possible anti-inflammatories/analgesia, as it could be painful.
