My hamster's private area is swollen after a fall and he can't eat.

Thanks for reaching out about your hamster and including pictures. In the pictures the testicles appear large but symmetrical. If you feel they are continuing to swell, seem painful, discolor or other problems, a veterinary visit is recommended. For now observe appetite and activity. Good luck.

I am sorry to hear about your hamster. Unfortunately we can see testicular tumors or cancer in male hamsters, so if one testicle is larger thant he other I would be concerned. If the testical is painful or turning color another possibility would be a testicular torsion, where the testical twists inside the skin cutting off the blood supply. I would recommend having a vet examine him to help determine the cause and they can recommend treatment if available. Best of luck to you!

He should be examined by your veterinarian. If he has "wet tail" (proliferative ileitis), he will need treatment and supportive care. Keep his cage clean. Change bedding daily if necessary. Keep him warm and as stress free as possible. Discontinue feeding any treats, fruits or vegetables until he recovers.

This is a medical emergency, and you absolutely have to take him into a vet immediately. This is known as proptosis, and it is is extremely painful. This will be why he's not eating. You cannot leave him in pain and leaving this untreated can lead to vision loss. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) may be needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. What a cute little hamster! That toe could be swollen from an infection, a small string partially wrapped deep around toe, a fracture, a mass growing there....it’s a lot of possibilities. I would say at this point if it has not resolved on its own, which it would do by now if it was just an injury, you need to see a vet to have it checked out. He may need antibiotic or anti inflammatory or even diagnostics such as X-rays or aspirate of the swelling.
