What is this small dot on my hamster's paw? Should I be worried?

This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). That looks like a wound of some type. Maybe from another hamster or a toy or bar in the cage? There could also be a small mass or cyst that's open. Keep that area clean and have a vet check that out in case he needs antibiotics.

This can be due to a pressure sore and a secondary infection. These issues can be caused by inappropriate flooring in the cage such as wire. Leilani should have a solid floor cage with plenty of bedding. Heavier animals are predisposed to these types of wounds from the increased pressure on the feet, so Leilani may need to cut down on treats if she is overweight to help the condition resolve. You should have Leilani seen by a vet as soon as possible, as she may require antibiotics if an infection is present. In the meantime, you should keep the area clean and apply a small amount of SSD (silver sulfadiazene) ointment to the area to promote healing. I hope this helps!

I am sorry tohear about Daile. I would monitor him closely to be sure he is eating and drinking normally. We would worry about a wound from another hamster, a wound coming from inside his cheek pouch if he had put something sharp into his mouth, a wound from sharp bedding depending on his bedding, or from his cage, or if more spots appear about parasites like skin mites. If you notice he is not eating, is getting lethargic, other spots appear, or if this spot gets larger, I would recommend bringing him in to the vet for an examination.

Most of these conditions are very itchy, and some hamsters may actually scratch so much that they draw blood. This can lead to further infection as the skin barrier is compromised. I recommend having Bear looked at by a vet as soon as possible to determine the cause of his skin condition and begin the appropriate treatment. You can carefully trim Bear's nails in the meantime to prevent him from causing further trauma. I hope this helps!

Hello. My concern is the possibility of a tumor that has grown & completely enveloped the limb. The other possibility is the hamster is obese & fat has also obscured the limb.
