My hamster seems to have a dilated anus related to a rectal prolapse as told by a professional veterinarian here on pet coach. The vet mentioned that it could be caused by parasites. Is there anything I can do do help get rid of them? Perhaps certain foods or feeding methods? How often should I clean her cage? Is it contagious? Lastly, I was wondering if it would be safe if i had put Vaseline on the affected area. The skin seems to be very dry and itchy, and my hamster is becoming irritated.
