My guinea pig isn't eating much after a broken leg. Is this normal?

Just continue to feed him his normal diet. If the vet said he's a healthy weight, I would not worry about it. It's normal there is to be some muscle mass loss around that leg because it's not use in use. Once his leg his healed and he can use it again, the muscle mass will build back up. I hope this helps.

I would endeavour to get her sn emergency appointment tonight to get some pain relief as I imagine she will be sore. However if you cannot I would move her into a smaller area with a soft material on the floor and no loose bedding or objects thst she could catch herself on. Feed and water as usual. Treatment will vary depending on severity of injury, it may be medicine or could be surgery if the leg is broken. Again cost will vary massively depending on the injury.

Hello. The leg was splinted & often this is all that is necessary to heal a bone. There is no one food that is necessary for healing bones. Just continue your pig on a good quality food & make sure your Vit. C is as fresh as possible. Anti-inflammatories like meloxicam & carprofen are used in GPs & with a broken leg I would certainly recommend he be on some. Thanks for arching out about Hoke. These signs are general of pain. Possibilities include fractured limb, but also a urinary calculi/obstruction. A visit to a veterinarian today is highly recommended. Radiographs will probably be needed. This does appear to be serious. Good luck.

I would be concerned that your guinea pig is not eating well and it may indicate that her infection is having a detrimental effect on her overall health. You may need to weigh her daily to ensure weight gain. Continue offering her food as frequently as you can to encourage her to eat. You may also want to try a critical care supplement that you can give her to help increase her caloric intake. If Angel has not been eating well for more than a 2-3 days then I would recommend taking her in to the vet for a thorough check up. She may need additional medication to help her get to feeling well. Poor Lucy! If she's not eating anything it's possible she may be in some pain. If your vet didn't prescribe pain medications, talking with them to see if that is an option may help Lucy feel well enough to eat. If she is on pain medications or other medications, these can sometimes cause some stomach upset. Offering a bland meal of boiled rice and chicken may help with minor tummy upset, however if she continues to refuse food or looks very sad and lethargic, scheduling a recheck with your vet to make sure there isn't anything else ongoing is best.

Oh dear, it does sound very concerning - I am worried that Brownie may have fractured her leg or foot from that description. She needs to be seen by a vet right away. Your vet will likely want to x-ray that leg to determine if (and specifically where) there's a fracture, and can then discuss the best way to help her heal, as well as start her on the necessary pain medication. Unfortunately there's nothing safe and over-the-counter that you can give her to help, so keep her safe and confined until you can have her seen by a vet. Hope this helps and she feels better soon!
