My young guinea pig has dark brownish urine stains. Should I worry?

Guinea pig pee comes out clear, but can oxidize and turn orange when it's exposed to the air. You might not have anything to worry about, just try to catch her on the act, if it is clear she is likely fine.

This looks like she has blood in her urine and this can be caused by a UTI, or urinary stones in the bladder or kidneys. She needs to see a vet for this problem to get it diagnosed and treated. Monitor Elsa for lethargy, decreased appetite or an increase in thirst or urination. If the stool is normal and formed, the blood may be in her urine. This could indicate a urinary tract infection. You would need to have her examined by your veterinarian for confirmation. A urine sample can be collected and submitted for urinalysis as well as a culture and sensitivity panel. These tests can confirm infection, identify the responsible organism and determine the best antibiotic to use in treatment.

Guinea pig urine, like rabbit and horse urine, is full of solutes and so can look really cloudy and be totally normal. This does not look concerning to me. The color and consistency of urine and feces in these creatures changes based on what they eat, so new treats or food can change how the urine looks. I would not worry at all. Hope that helps!

This may be because of an inflammatory or infectious condition, among many other possibilities. For this reason, I recommend that you have Beaver evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible so that they can proceed with an exam, gathering more information and deciding what would be best for Beaver at this point. Hello. A milky white urine could be an indication of pyuria, or infection in the urinary tract. Too much phosphorous in the diet or crystals in the urine can also cause the milky white color. Please make sure Coco's diet is primarily timothy based pellets & hay. Make sure you are not feeding too much in the way of spinach, parsley or celery. Also, make sure you are not overdoing the Vit. C & D supplements. You might want to have the urine analyzed just to make sure this is not anything else that may require additional treatments.
