Monitor Elsa for lethargy, decreased appetite or an increase in thirst or urination. If the stool is normal and formed, the blood may be in her urine. This could indicate a urinary tract infection. You would need to have her examined by your veterinarian for confirmation. A urine sample can be collected and submitted for urinalysis as well as a culture and sensitivity panel. These tests can confirm infection, identify the responsible organism and determine the best antibiotic to use in treatment.

This looks like she has blood in her urine and this can be caused by a UTI, or urinary stones in the bladder or kidneys. She needs to see a vet for this problem to get it diagnosed and treated. A bloody discharge from the vagina could be caused by a severe UTI, bladder stones (quite common in guinea pigs), or a uterine/vaginal infection. There are no home remedies for this, I am afraid, so you will need to make an appointment with your vet for an exam and possibly x-rays.Infection is usually treated with injectable antibiotics and pain medicine. Bladder stones may need to be removed with surgery.

It sounds as though poor Coco has a urinary tract infection. This is typically caused by bacteria overgrowth and Coco will require antibiotic treatment. I would suggest contacting your local veterinarian that is skilled in treating guinea pigs to set up an appointment.

If your guinea pig (GP) is bleeding and it one not external the two options would be vaginal or rectal bleeding. With blood from her genital, urinary tract problems like bladder infection or stones usually are the cause in this cases t you will notice diffuse blood spots since the blood is diluted by urine. Vaginal bleeding can also originating from the uterus in this case uterine tumor or uterine infection can bo the cause. Rectal bleeding can be an indication of trauma to the rectal lining due to hard, constipated stools or passage of a foreign object (bedding material, etc). Other possibilities are a rectal mass such as a cyst, abscess, or even a tumor within the rectal wall or in the colon. In any case you GP will need to be examined by a vet and the source of the bleeding investigated. Since the GP is lethargic she will need help ASAP. Hope this helps.

Thanks for reaching out about Beto. Dark urine can be the result of carotenoids in the urine (from yellow/orange veggies) or other pigments. Although blood is possible, not common in young guinea pigs, but possible. Removing these vegetables from the diet for a short period of time, might change the appearance of urine. Good luck.
