My guinea pig has creamy pee and big belly. Is it a bladder infection?

Your skinny pig is very cute, I love thes guys! The increased drinking can be a number of things from a urinary tract infection to a teeth problem! Guinea pigs can pass creamy urine from excess calcium in their urine from diet or from a uterine issue. She will need to see a vet and have them check and see what is going on. If you can get her to go pee on a flat, clean surface, you can take it in to your vet. It should be in the fridge until you take it in. Make sure she is is getting low calcium veggies (like Romaine, Endive, Escarole, Cilantro and bell peppers), no alfalfa hay and Adult GP pellets that are free of Alfalfa.

Hi, and thanks for your question. These signs might be compatible with a urinary tract infection/inflammation. Stress related (idiopathic type of inflammation) infections and presence of crystals are the most common causes of it. Kidney stones are possible as well. These signs must be checked as soon as possible as urinary tract infection can be dangerous in male (especially neutered) guinea pigs as it can develop into a urinary tract obstruction/blockage. A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics may be needed. This looks like she has blood in her urine and this can be caused by a UTI, or urinary stones in the bladder or kidneys. She needs to see a vet for this problem to get it diagnosed and treated. Guinea pig urine, like rabbit and horse urine, is full of solutes and so can look really cloudy and be totally normal. This does not look concerning to me. The color and consistency of urine and feces in these creatures changes based on what they eat, so new treats or food can change how the urine looks. I would not worry at all. Hope that helps!

This can be normal. Calcium compounds in the urine cause this cloudiness. Without seeing them in person, however, I can't say for certain it's normal, so I would have them checked out by a vet to be safe. Best of luck.

Well, the first thing you'll need to do is figure out whether or not this is a male or female. There are lots of images available on guinea pig sexing and guinea pig anatomy so that you will be able to figure this out most likely. In terms of the symptoms you've reported, I would have to see pictures and perform a physical exam to give you my take. It sounds like you could be right, but there are also many other reasons for both pain and swelling in the abdomen. I would recommend having you and your parents bring him to a veterinarian comfortable treating small mammals. Hope this makes sense.
