My guinea pig has cloudy urine. Is this normal or a concern?

Guinea pig urine, like rabbit and horse urine, is full of solutes and so can look really cloudy and be totally normal. This does not look concerning to me. The color and consistency of urine and feces in these creatures changes based on what they eat, so new treats or food can change how the urine looks. I would not worry at all. Hope that helps!

Hello. A milky white urine could be an indication of pyuria, or infection in the urinary tract. Too much phosphorous in the diet or crystals in the urine can also cause the milky white color. Please make sure Coco's diet is primarily timothy based pellets & hay. Make sure you are not feeding too much in the way of spinach, parsley or celery. Also, make sure you are not overdoing the Vit. C & D supplements. You might want to have the urine analyzed just to make sure this is not anything else that may require additional treatments. Your skinny pig is very cute, I love thes guys! The increased drinking can be a number of things from a urinary tract infection to a teeth problem! Guinea pigs can pass creamy urine from excess calcium in their urine from diet or from a uterine issue. She will need to see a vet and have them check and see what is going on. If you can get her to go pee on a flat, clean surface, you can take it in to your vet. It should be in the fridge until you take it in. Make sure she is is getting low calcium veggies (like Romaine, Endive, Escarole, Cilantro and bell peppers), no alfalfa hay and Adult GP pellets that are free of Alfalfa.

This looks like she has blood in her urine and this can be caused by a UTI, or urinary stones in the bladder or kidneys. She needs to see a vet for this problem to get it diagnosed and treated. Guinea pig pee comes out clear, but can oxidize and turn orange when it's exposed to the air. You might not have anything to worry about, just try to catch her on the act, if it is clear she is likely fine.

Some guinea pigs can have problems with a urinary infection and/or bladder stones that can cause their urine to look like as you described. This is not normal. If Peaches is pregnant this could be a serious problem. It's a good idea to have your vet examine Peaches and do a urinalysis to check for infection and other problems. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

These signs are compatible with the presence of a urinary tract infection due to crystals but stones may be present as well. Diet (certain food is rich in Calcium here you can see a list of them http://www.guinealynx.info/diet_order-cal.html), water mineral content and individual predisposition are all possible causes. If you already considered all these predisposing factors, a check up to rule out urinary /bladder stones is required.
