My guinea pig ate dental floss. Is this an emergency situation?

Oh no! That is definitely an emergency. Mischa needs to go to an emergency clinic right away so that the floss can be removed from his stomach (ideally by endoscopy so that he doesn't need a full surgery) before it moved in to his intestines where it can cause the intestines to bunch up (like a scrunchie) and kill the bowel. Do not give him any food, just go straight to the ER. Food would make endoscopy or surgery harder.

An immediate check up is required as this ingestion can lead to severe gastrointestinal side effects. Surgery to remove the wire may be needed. Depending on the size of the piece, it could cause an intestinal obstruction. If it was a small piece than it will probably pass through with no problems. Monitor for any abnormal signs and have a vet take a look at her if you notice anything concerning, like lethargy, decreased appetite, or gastrointestinal signs.

Oh my goodness! I really don't think a guinea pig would swallow a needle but I guess stranger things have happened! I would be concerned if you are fairly convinced he ate it. It would be easy to see if he did with a simple x-ray that your vet can do. I recommend you have that done as it will ease your worries. If he did ingest it, that would be an emergency and it would need to be removed (either surgically or with an endoscope). Otherwise, as as I am sure you can imagine, that sharp needle could perforate though his stomach or intestines and cause serious damage that can be fatal. Hi there! Yes, you should definitely take Pepper into a your vet for an examination. I don't think it's an emergency but I would do it soon. Be sure that you take her to a vet that is used to treating guinea pigs. There are a many things that could be going on. Most common at her age would be a tooth issue causing her not to be able to chew her food appropriately or an intestinal impaction/constipation. Be sure you are feeding the correct type of hay and you are getting it from a good source. Poor quality hay can cause a lot of problems. Mushy stools is not a good sign in guinea pigs, it usually indicates a gastrointestinal condition and it needs to be treated ASAP so it doesn't get any worse. i would strongly recommend taking him to the vet a soon as you can in order to get treated.
