My young ferret fell and is limping. Is this normal or serious?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Ferret | Male | unneutered | 3 lbs

My 6 month old ferret fell about 5 feet. He has been walking with a limp ever since. Is doing activities completely normal. Just with a limp. Doesn’t seem to be affected when I touch the area.

Thanks for reaching out about Chip. A limp can range from soft tissue trauma (a bruise), ligament damage to a dislocation or fracture. A veterinary visit is recommended for diagnosis, as corrections are more successful early in the process. At the minimal, pain medication might decrease healing time.
Good luck.
