My cat fell and is limping slightly. Is it serious enough for a vet?

If the lameness has persisted for 3 weeks and you notice that there is a difference in the shape of the shoulder area and leg position, I fear that the injury could be more serious than a sprain. Muscle injuries normally recover in 4-5 days of rest and antinflammatories. I would recommend to have him reassessed, there is a medication that can be given at home prior to the visit to help with the stress, I would ask your vet. Hope this helps !

Your vet will need to do an exam and may recommend taking x-rays to check for fractures or other injuries to the legs so he can be appropriately treated.

Poor Jango! I would wait another 24 hours. Keep him confined to a small room to keep down his movement, and force him to rest. Have a litter box, food, and water in the room. If you can find a crate large enough to hold all of that equipment plus him, I would put him in it. No running, jumping, or playing. Don't let him outside if he's normally allowed outside. Should he still be limping after 24 hours, then I would take him into the vet for a lameness exam and possibly x-rays. Please do NOT give him any human pain medications, as many are toxic to cats and are fatal if given.

You are correct that it could be a strain, or there may be an abscess and you've simply missed it. Given that he's been limping for three days after rest, I would take him into the vet today for an exam. He will need pain meds, and the vet can do a physical exam and possibly x-rays to diagnose why Samson is limping. Hi, I would start with monitoring him for the next 24 hours, limit his exercise and movement, keep him indoor and watch if with extra rest there is improvement. I'm sorry Shadow is limping! No, it's not likely the vet injured her during the first visit. When we do a lameness exam, yes we do manipulate the legs but not enough to cause injury. If she does have spinal issues, it does make sense that she will show varying degrees of limping at times. I'd recommend having x-rays done on her spine to see if she is suffering from spinal problems. Unfortunately, kidney failure is very common in senior cats. It can be managed symptomatically, but it cannot be cured.

If Paris is lame and painful, she should be physically examined by your veterinarian. An exam and possibly x-rays may provide a diagnosis. Afterwards, pain medication can be dispensed or administered by your veterinarian if indicated. Restrict her activity, if possible, until she sees the doctor.
