Why is one of my female dwarf hamsters suddenly squeaking constantly?

I’m sorry to hear about this with your hamster. As you mentioned, 2 is quite old for a hamster so we have to take that into consideration. His increased vocalizations are likely due to discomfort, probably from his illness. I would recommend taking him back to your veterinarian for a recheck just to make sure nothing else is going on. Thanks for reaching out about your hamster. Vocalization during sleeping could be a sign of respiratory disease that could be causing difficulty berthing. Monitor appetite and water intake, but a veterinary visit is recommended. Hamsters ask slightly prone to heart disease also, which can cause respiratory problems. Supplying supplemental heat might help. Good luck.

It would be hard to say without an exam, however respiratory issues usually result in symptoms such as raspy breathing, coughing, sneezing, wheezing and changes in behavior including loss of appetite, lethargy, etc. Squeaking on its own doesn't really indicate this, however if you are concerned, or Bolletje is showing symptoms listed above, a vet visit is best. Until you can get her to your vet, keeping her warm and eating and drinking may help, but if symptoms worsen, seeking care sooner is needed.

If you heard a sound in the middle of the night just a single time, and nothing else has ever happened before, I don't think there is anything to worry about just yet. If this happens again, you might want to consider setting up a camera or something while you are sleeping so you can review exactly what is happening. For now, I think you should operate under the assumption that either there was some dream activity, or Pippy maybe just bumped himself on something causing some discomfort. Hope this helps!

Guinea pigs do prefer company (as long as they get along) and if they don't have other guinea pigs to hang out with, the humans must make time every day for interaction. Is this a change in behavior? If so then an appointment with your veterinarian soon would be recommended as he could be in pain for even sometime like a brain tumor causing behavior changes. However, if this is a newly acquired hamster then this may be his personality. On average hamsters are usually more aggressive and less docile then other pocket pets. It sounds like Red may be having seizures. Make sure he is eating and drinking normally. If he continues to do this then I would recommend to contact your vet for an exam to ensure there is nothing wrong that could be causing the seizure like low glucose, an infection, diabetes, and more.
