Why is my female guinea pig squeaking? Happy or scared of new males?

In any grouping of animals you will have some sort of dominance hierarchy. Problems arise when one is so dominant that it won’t allow the other to eat enough, or when they start to injure the others then I worry that it isn’t a safe situation. If you have noticed scabs or wounds on them you may need to consider separating them when they are not being supervised. The same situation will apply when you add in a third. The dynamic will shift with 3. Either it will be easier and they will get along better, or one will clearly be the submissive and get picked on too much. The squeaking is from fear/anxiety. It may help to offer her treats and fruits and vegetables such as apples, blueberries and carrots daily by hand to help gradually relieve her anxiety around you over time/help her associate you with her favorite foods! Also spending time with her out of her cage on the floor with you with and treats/toys may gradually help her relax around you as well (vs being held high up). Good luck!

Guinea pigs aren't always naturally tame as they are a prey species so can be skittish/fearful at first. I think is perfectly normal for her to do that (vocalizing may be an actual good sign!) and, by your description of what you are doing, I think you are not doing anything wrong at all! Excessive vocalization can sometimes indicate pain or illness, so following up with your vet to see if Toffee's infection has cleared is best. It may be that she is also feeling a bit better and is more active/excited to see you and thus vocalizing. Taking into account other things such as her activity levels, how much she's eating and drinking, how playful she is, etc can help give you a better indication of her health and pain levels than just squeaking alone.

It sounds like pogo maybe doing a guinea pig “pur”. This can shoe contentment or annoyance depending. You’ll have to try to read any other body language she is giving you. It may be excitement or it could be aggression. If you plan on physically introducing them, wait until Sebastian does not make the noises anymore and then put them together for ever increasing periods of time. If there is any aggression, separate them immediately.
