How do I figure out if my baby guinea pigs are boys or girls?

Thanks for your question about your guinea pigs, and congratulations on getting new members to your family. The photos are mildly blurry, but both of the pigs look like females. One thing you can do to confirm - the lighter colored guinea pig photo is more clear and is a female. The darker one is a bit harder to tell - if you compare them and they look the same then they are both females. If you are unsure, you can also post additional photos. I would recommend taking your new pets to the veterinarian for a wellness exam. They can provide you with husbandry and diet advice so that your new friends can stay happy and healthy. I can't see based on the photos. I need to see lower down below the opening to the urethra. Sometimes though this is still difficult as the male guinea pigs can pull the testicles into the abdomen. Try holding Buddy up and taking another photo. You can likely also bring him into a pet store or a vet's office and they will likely be able to tell. I hope this helps and best of luck!

Congratulations on your new pets - Lenard and Sheldon are super cute (and those are great names!). From the picture, they both look to be about the same size, but you can weigh them to be sure. As long as they are both eating normally and defecating regularly, there is no reason to be concerned about their size difference. You can hold them on their backs and look at their genitals to make sure they are both boys, as females can be smaller than males. I hope this helps!

You can make this determination by looking at the distance between the urinary and anal openings. In male gerbils, this space is larger than it is in females. This method works best when you have other gernils for comparison. Males will also have prominent and readily identifiable testicles as well as a prominaent scent gland that is larger than a female's scent gland.

They are very cute! From the pictures, yes they do look healthy, but please keep in mind I can't say this for certain without seeing them in person. If you have concerns about their health, I recommend having them checked out by a vet. I hope this helps :-)
