Can I use Clorox wipes to clean my pet's cage without harming them?

Hello. You can never go wrong with dilute bleach. One (1) part bleach to nine (9) parts water is effective for just about all viruses & bacteria. Wipe the entire cage down with the dilute bleach, let things sit for about 5-10 minutes & then just wipe dry. No need to rinse. Either replace the litter box with a new one or soak it in the bleach water along with all bowls & dishes. The dishes should be rinsed with water before drying. If your hands were dry, the residue was likely minimal. It may have been further diluted by the water in the tank. There isn't much to be done except to monitor tank inhabitants for any symptoms of exposure such as lethargy, decreased appetite or swimming oddly. A partial water change can be done to further dilute any residue in the tank.

For a new tank, hot, soapy water followed by a thorough rinsing is sufficient. Steam cleaning and a dilute bleach solution (1/2 cup bleach:1 gallon water) can be used for disinfection. There are also commercial cleaners, such as Zoo Med Wipe Out, that can be purchased online or in most pet stores.

They should be safe - any might have trace essential oils in them but I wouldn't have any concerns around pets. If a wipe was ingested it could potentially cause problems, but the residue the wipes leave should be fine.

Great questions! Rabbits do have very sensitive noses and are sensitive to smells. In looking up cloves, I found that it as a essential oil is not safe for rabbits. That would include the smell as well, so I would avoid using cloves around Hestia. As for cleaning her cage, a vinegar and warm water solution is fine to use to clean her cage, just make sure it's completely dry before you put her back in the cage. I hope this helps!
