Are cloves and vinegar safe for my rabbit's sensitive nose and cage?

As long as the fragrance is not too overpowering it should be safe for your rabbit. Be sure there is some ventilation, like an open window or door, and make sure there is no way the rabbit can access the cloves. I hope this helps. I would never use essential oils directly on your rabbit. Frankly, the best way to help with the odor is to keep your rabbit and his housing very clean by frequently changing litter and bedding. And never bathe a rabbit unless he has soiled himself and/or is very dirty. They usually groom enough to keep themselves clean. Rabbits are very delicate and sensitive which is why they are often used as a human analog in product testing.

I would try to avoid housing a rabbit on pine or cedar shavings as they can affect how the liver processes anesthesia/drugs (Care fresh would be a safe alternative), but having the rabbit in a room with cedar paneled walls is likely not an issue. The lingering fumes from any paint or stain would likely be worse for the rabbit. Good luck and enjoy! Rabbits can be wonderful pets!

Hello. I would use either Nature's Miracle of just plain old white vinegar. For the hard scale, just soak your pans in the vinegar & rinse. Otherwise, just put the vinegar in a spray bottle & clean as often as needed. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

Thanks for reaching out about Onyx. Oil residues can cause respiratory irritations, both sinus and lungs, and are not recommended. None of these product have been tested in a scientific controlled environment to determine, efficacy, toxicity or other reactions. Upper respiratory infections (Snuffles) are often caused by bacterial infections, that are best treated with systemic antibiotics. A rabbit-savvy veterinarian can helps with the diagnosis and treatment plans. Good luck.

Hi, and thank you for posting this question. I have never read or seen anything reported on the safety of hamsters and vinegar. However, I have personally used it in the past in my own hamster’s cage. In my experience there was no problem as long as I rinsed and dried the cage well. I hope this helps! It may be stressful at first if your rabbit is not used to the smell, but should get better over time. Spraying other chemicals such as essential oils etc is probably NOT a good idea as that may be irritating to your rabbit's (and ferret's) bodies and may cause more harm than just having the ferret odor. Keeping the area cleaned and well ventilated is a better solution to minimize odors rather than mask it.
