Are cedar paneled walls safe for my rabbit's respiratory health?

As long as the fragrance is not too overpowering it should be safe for your rabbit. Be sure there is some ventilation, like an open window or door, and make sure there is no way the rabbit can access the cloves. I hope this helps. Great questions! Rabbits do have very sensitive noses and are sensitive to smells. In looking up cloves, I found that it as a essential oil is not safe for rabbits. That would include the smell as well, so I would avoid using cloves around Hestia. As for cleaning her cage, a vinegar and warm water solution is fine to use to clean her cage, just make sure it's completely dry before you put her back in the cage. I hope this helps!

Eastern white pine is general considered the "safe" pine to use as rabbit chews. The other species of pine contain higher levels of phenols which are toxic. Pine, ideally, should be kiln dried, before being offered. The high temps "bake" the phenols out of the wood. Pine needles while not toxic, can cause stomach upset or an obstruction if enough are eaten. To be safe, stay away from them.

Softwood litters i.e. pine shavings or sawdust newspaper, paper pulp bedding, wood pellets, paper pellets, shredded cardboard, straw and hay all make good bedding. The best is probably a combination of newspaper and hay since you feed hay anyway. Newspaper is also easily cleaned out.

You may need to either move them to a hutch that doesn’t have paint or sand down the one they are destroying. The biggest worry would be if the paint was old and contains lead. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.

It would be safest to avoid all types of pine bedding. There are other options that are safer such as aspen shavings or any one of the recycled paper type bedding materials. The current bedding is fine to use as well.

I would never use essential oils directly on your rabbit. Frankly, the best way to help with the odor is to keep your rabbit and his housing very clean by frequently changing litter and bedding. And never bathe a rabbit unless he has soiled himself and/or is very dirty. They usually groom enough to keep themselves clean. Rabbits are very delicate and sensitive which is why they are often used as a human analog in product testing.
