Why won't my bunny jump down from his new hutch? He jumps fine otherwise.

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Male | neutered | 5 lbs

Hi! My bunny Freckles seems scared to jump down in his new hutch. He jumps up in the hutch. He jumps off the bed just fine which is twice as high. He also runs & plays just like normal. Our other bunny jumps down in the hutch easily.

It is very difficult to say what is going on withe Freckles. He may just be uncomfortable jumping down until he gets used to it. It could have something to do with his eyesight and depth perception along with the lighting around the hutch. It could be that something scared him when he tried to jump down and now that keeps spooking him. It is really hard to say. You can always take him to a vet for an exam if you are really worried. They may be able to see something that is causing him an issue and/or pain.

I personally don't think I would be all that concerned about it. Don't force him as that may scare him more. Just let him figure it out on his own.

If Louie is not acting like himself, I recommend having him seen by a vet as soon as possible. If he has resumed normal behavior, you can monitor him at home to make sure he continues eating, drinking, and having normal bowel movements. I recommend filming the behavior of you are able to in case Louie continues doing it and I would be happy to take a look.

New 8-week-old bunny acting blind. How to tell if he can see?

Hi and thank you for your question. The color of the eyes sounds normal for this age, some bunnies retain it for life. As to eyesight this may be tricky to access. They don't always react to hand movements. What you could do is place thumper in an unfamiliar room with some obstacles on the floor and try to see if he avoids them before he can actually feel them. As I said, it can be tricky. Obviously, a health check at your vet is also recommended.

Why is my rabbit hiding and shivering? How do I calm him down?

Your rabbit was probably frightened by what happened. You will have to slowly work with him to regain your trust. Just be patient with him and use lots of treats and he will go back to normal soo. Additionally, when you take him outside if the cage, only allow him into a safe area where he cannot sneak under the furniture and hurt himself. I hope this helps. New bunny jumping out of cage: Is it lonely or a behavior issue?

Rabbits usually do not love cages. I recommend placing a top on the cage to prevent this behavior. If Oliver is inside your house you can actually litter box train him and use a small pin to keep him in for now. Sometimes bunnies like partners but other times they really like to be alone. I would not recommend getting another bunny until oliver is settled in to him new environment.

My rabbit was almost hurt by its cage. When should I see a vet?

If you believe that Boston Bunnelby may have been injured by his cage, I recommend bringing him to your veterinarian. He/she can perform a full physical exam and look for evidence of soft tissue or skeletal injury and treat accordingly, if needed. If he is otherwise moving around as usual and acting normally (eating, drinking, urinating, defecating) normally, I would not be concerned. I hope this is helpful!

Why is my rabbit scared and running when I try to approach her?

Give her some quiet time alone (30 minutes or so), and try again, being careful to approach slowly and quietly, talking softly to her. She may just need some time to settle down. Good luck!
