New 8-week-old bunny acting blind. How to tell if he can see?

It sounds like your bunny might be having trouble seeing, if he is running into everything. There are a few causes for the blindness, including a tumor, abscess, cataracts, or an infection caused by E. cunniculi. He needs to be seen by a vet as soon as possible to determine what might be the cause, because if there is treatment available it should be given soon so the damage doesn't become permanent.

What a cute bunny! From the photo the area on the skin looks as though it has healed- if there is a defect in the skin itself then an exam by the vet is recommended as he may need antibiotics. I cannot see any redness to his eyes in this photo, so I am not sure if you mean that his eye color is red or if he has red eye lids or the white of his eyes look red. It is difficult to tell from your description whether this is a problem with Mildinka's eyesight, or perhaps a neurological issue, or perhaps she is just not interested in the food right away. I would definitely get her checked out at a vet to properly assess her symptoms. Eye problems in young rabbits can be related to a neurological parasite called Encephalozoon cuniculi. Alternatively, she could be dealing with an eye infection, or pain somewhere in her body causing low appetite. It is unfortunately hard to say for sure without a proper exam. In the meantime, I would try to keep her hay and pellets, and water close by so she has easy access to everything. I hope this helps, and that Mildinka gets the help she needs soon!

Vision will gradually improve to adult capacity over the next several weeks. You can gauge your puppy's vision by throwing a cotton ball into the air and watching his/her response. A puppy with normal sight will watch the hand motion, then the cotton ball as it falls to the floor. Do this silently as sound may distract the puppy. If your pup fails to spot or follow the cotton ball, see your veterinarian or a [veterinary ophthalmologist](https://www.acvo.org/) for a complete eye exam.

Diarrhea can be observed with gastrointestinal parasites for example. I highly recommend that you have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check on the possible cause of the diarrhea so that it can be treated and why his eyes are not apparent. Good luck!

Thanks for reaching out about Bing. The whites of the eye (sclera) rarely change colors in healthy animals. Sometimes baby animals have bluish scleras that whiten as they mature. Sorry for the lack of definitive answers. But is persists or any signs of illness, a veterinary visit is recommended.
