Why is my dog suddenly scared to jump down from furniture now?

It might be that her back or neck is sore. Try to prevent her from jumping, running, or playing tug of war/roughhousing for a few days. If it’s not getting better in the next 2-3 days, take him in to the vet. If he’s getting worse, or develops other symptoms, don’t wait to take him in. It sounds like Daddy injured himself jumping up on the bed. I recommend resting him for the next 48 hours. No running, jumping, or playing. Take him out to toilet on a lead only, and bring him right back in when he's done. If he still appears painful after this time, then I would take him into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from, and can dictate a treatment plan for it. He may also benefit from some pain medications, which the vet can prescribe. I'm interpreting your question to mean Toby is having *problems* jumping...? This could be a sign of pain with an orthopedic issue, such as luxating patellas (kneecaps that shift out of their correct place) or intervertebral disc disease. It could also be a sign of lethargy if Toby is showing any other symptoms of illness such as a decreased appetite, vomiting, or diarrhea. If this is a sudden change but Toby is acting completely normal otherwise, you may rest him for several days in case it's a minor injury - don't allow him to jump on/off furniture, carry him outside to urinate then right back inside, no rough play, etc. However, if it doesn't improve with a few days of rest, or if he's having any other symptoms, Toby should be seen by a vet to determine the problem and get him started on the appropriate treatment. Do not give him any medications without your vet's instructions, as no human pain medication is safe & effective for dogs, and anything you give could interfere with your vet's recommended therapy. Poor Gigi! In many cases, reluctance to jump up onto furniture or onto an owner's lap is a sign of back pain, or arthritis in the hips or rear legs. This can be true even if she isn't crying or whining, as many dogs who are painful don't make any obvious sounds like this. I would recommend taking Gigi to the vet for an exam when you are able to - he/she can do a thorough orthopedic exam and may also recommend x-rays to help check for problems in her back or hips. If a problem is found, your vet can prescribe an anti-inflammatory or pain medication to help make her more comfortable so that she can get back to jumping on things the way she did before :)

Ammu definitely sounds like she might be in pain on some part of her body. While you might not be able to appreciate any pain on palpation of her legs and hips at home, a more well-trained set of hands might be able to isolate a small area that could be injured. Even if you have not seen a traumatic event occur, it is still quite possible that a young Beagle could have somehow caused herself an injury while romping around. Other causes of difficultly rising or getting around could be a systemic infection, neurologic problem, or inflammatory condition. Any of these would require a diagnostic work up by a veterinarian to determine what therapies should be instituted.

It could be lots of things, a sound only Miki can hear, itching from fleas or allergies, pain, etc. If this behavior continues in 24 hours, it is a good idea to have him examined by a vet for any possible medical causes.

I am very sorry to hear that Jake seems less eager to jump then he used to be. This is a very common problem with older small- medium dogs. Though it is difficulty to say exactly what is the cause, I would be worried about osteoarthritis in Jake's hip joints. A vet would be able to diagnose with a physical examination as well as potentially using an X-ray to visualise the changes in Jake's lower back, Such as slipped discs, knees, and hip joints. Because Jake seems otherwise very well in himself I would advise adding a supplement to his diet to help with joint health. There are several of these on the market currently. Look for Glucosamine & Chondroitin in the labels, and always buy a pet formulated brand, as doses are different for humans. I would also advise a change in his exercise regime to promote lean muscle mass development. Muscle wastage is a common contributing factor in older dogs. More frequent, but shorter walks will benefit Jake.
