My bunny has no eyes and diarrhea. What's wrong? What should I do?

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Make sure Penelope's diet is proper. stop all leafy greens & fresh vegetables. She should have no more than 1/4 cup of fresh rabbit pellets, & a body size pile of timothy hay. Tomorrow, take a sample of her stool for analysis to your vet. They will see if she has any intestinal parasites including coccidia. Based on this, your vet may recommend putting her on a diet of Critical care to increase fiber, or if she needs antibiotics. Hello. There are just too many questions that need to be answered in order to offer any advice. The best thing is to have your bunny examined by a veterinarian who can check Laddu for intestinal parasites, discuss the diet you are feeding her & possibly start her on a Critical Care diet & possibly antibiotics. Poor Thumper! Diarrhea in rabbits is cause for concern as it can be caused by bacterial disturbances which can be life-threatening. The stress of a new environment, diet change, and possibly not eating/drinking for a while may have caused this. I recommend keeping a very close eye on Thumper and having him seen by a vet immediately if he has diarrhea again, loses his appetite, or is lethargic. He may need antibiotics and supportive care to get better.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! He is adorable! The eye could have suffered some damage perhaps caused by trauma requiring medical or even surgical help. The diarrhea could be perhaps due to parasites. I highly recommend that you have your kitty evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment which may include eye drops and anti-diarrhea medications. Miffy may have blocked tear ducts He could also have chronic conjunctivitis that requires a different eye drops with antibiotic. Please, take Miffy to your local vet and discuss flushing the tear ducts (this is fairly easy to do but many rabbits need mild sedation for this procedure) or start him on different eye drops. Your vet may want to send off a swab from the eyes to external laboratory to find out what type of antibiotic would be best to use.

Diarrhea is definitely bad for rabbits. There can be multiple causes, ranging from different bacterial infections, stress, diet, parasites, and more. If your rabbit is having diarrhea they should be seen by a veterinarian for an exam as untreated it can become very dangerous as they can become dehydrated and can end up with bacteria in the bloodstream if the condiiton progresses.

Cute bunny, and congratulations on your new family member. Yes, it is pretty common for bunnies to get eye infections but there are a number of different reasons for them. The most common of those include a blocked tear duct that would normal drain extra tears from the eye into the nose, an abrasion or scratch, or an E. Cuniculi infection. A blocked tear duct can be caused by something as simple as a dusty brand of hay to something as complex as a chronic tooth issue. In a bunny as young as yours the chronic condition is less likely. Unfortunately, the only good way to tell if there is a blockage is for a vet to stain the eye and see if the colored stain drains into the nose as it should. If it is blocked, the vet can flush it out. They could also get a very superficial look at the teeth to see if they appear normal. The vet would be likely to give you some medication to help the irritated skin in front of the eye heal faster as well, for now please keep that area as clean and dry as possible.
