My lizard ate a stargazer lily flower. Is it toxic to reptiles?

Some lizard species may be toxic, most are not. Another concern is that Bacchu may become infected with intestinal parasites or liver flukes. Monitor for lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite or abdominal pain. These are symptoms of serious illness that should be addressed by your veterinarian. It is not a recommended plant to be kept in a chameleon enclosure. The oxalic acid in the leaves produces a burning sensation in the mouth and GI tract. Long term ingestion is more dangerous than a few bites in a short period of time. It is good that you removed it. Monitor her for lethargy, decreased appetite, loose stool or regurgitation. If she is asymptomatic after 24-48 hours, she has likely suffered no ill effects from her dietary indiscretion.

Thanks for reaching out about Samson and including a photo. Stems and roots are much more toxic than flowers. A veterinary visit can provide a gastric lavage (flush) but you can not induce vomiting in rabbits. Monitor appetite and water intake. Good luck.

This could possibly lead to toxicity causing gastrointestinal signs (vomiting/diarrhoea), depending on the amount ingested the severity of the signs can be different. I would recommend an immediate veterinary check up and close monitoring for the next 24 hours (especially appetite and possibly diarrhoea or constipation).

Lilies are not toxic to dogs although they can cause stomach upset. All parts of the lily plant are quite toxic to cats and cause kidney failure, but dogs seem to be resistant. If Zoey vomits or develops diarrhea you should see your veterinarian.

Unfortunately the daylily is toxic to cats, and clinical signs usually occur between 6-12 hours after exposure. Watch out for lethargy, increased drinking, increased urination, racing heart beat, increased heart rate, vomiting, and diarrhea. If you see any of those signs, rush Dewey into a vet immediately.
