What are the legal requirements for owning birds or reptiles in New Zealand?

Q fever To prevent these diseases, any animals that are imported into the country are subject to strict biosecurity measures and quarantine procedures. For example, cats and dogs who are imported into New Zealand must go through a series of tests before they are allowed to be imported in and then are quarantined for a specified length of time. Mice are not native to New Zealand and are considered an invasive species. You can bring birds to Australia however it can get very complicated. i would recommend contacting the USDA in your state to see what requirements are needed. Most birds need specific testing and free of certain disease. Also most birds will have to be quarantined for a specific amount of time once they reach Australia. It might not be worth all the paper work and cost unless you are moving there. The USDA will have a lot more information for you. hope that help

Hello. It is very important that you always wash your hands after handling any reptile & before handling your birds or any materials belonging to the birds.
