My box turtle's nose is bleeding. Is she egg-bound? What to do?

I have a box turtle and this morning her nose was bleeding a bit. we've had her for 15 yr & never had this happen before. she's moving & eating fine. she has been trying to push out an egg for the last week or so, at least we think she is. I just want to make sure she's okay but vets seem to be closed in my area

Check the humidity in the enclosed. If ot is too dry, or could cause a minor nose bleed. If she will allow, look for any debris or foreign body in and around the area. It may also be infection (bacterial or fungal) which should be addressed by your veterinarian or a vet experienced in treating reptiles.
Since she has been straining, she should be seen by a veterinary. Being egg bound is a potentially serious condition. Veterinary ERs and clinics should be seeing patients. Call ahead. Procedures have likely been modified to prevent or limit contact. You may need to drop Penny off them wait for your veterinarian to call you to discuss exam findings and treatment options.

    If it is a superficial wound, do not worry, you can control bleeding using gentle pressure and some plain corn starch. Keep your turtle out of the water until the bleeding stops. If it doesn't, take it to your veterinarian, the nearest veterinary ER or to a veterinarian experienced in treating reptiles.
    If it is truly a nosebleed, it should be examined by a veterinarian experienced in treating reptiles to diagnose the cause. This could be anything from"simple" infection to tumors.

Have Peechu examined by an experienced herp veterinarian. She may have a respiratory infection. If left untreated, it can progress to pneumonia which can be deadly. Check the temps and humidity in her enclosure. Low temps can stress her and high humidity can cause respiratory infection.

If you think Bertha may be egg bound, she should be examined by your veterinarian or an experienced herp veterinarian as soon as you can get an appointment. In the meantime, check water and ambient temperatures in the tank. Soak her in a warm 50/50 solution of water and unflavored PediaLyte. You can add a little liquid calcium supplement to the soak as well.

It sounds like your tortoise has an upper respiratory tract infection. I would recommend taking her to a veterinarian that is comfortable treating reptiles. She may need x-rays to determine what is going on. Your vet will probably recommend antibiotics and possibly a breathing treatment to help clear up the nasal passages. Good luck.

This sounds like an upper respiratory infection. First you need to check your husbandry. Is the enclosure the proper temperature/humidity? Has the temperature changed drastically in the last few weeks? Have you moved the enclosure? Are you feeding him the correct diet and vitamin supplements? How is the lighting? Have you changed the bulbs in the last 6 months? My recommendation is to take him to a vet to get antibiotics.

Why is my turtle wheezing with nose discharge after hibernation?
Sounds like she has an upper respiratory infection (URI). You need to get her to a reptile vet as soon as you can. She will need antibiotics to get this to clear up. Many tortoises get URI if they get too cold when they are hibernating. That is my best guess as to what happened here. You definitely need a vet that is used to treating reptiles. Yes, this looks very serious. I suggest you dry dock her for a bit and do daily soaks in dilute Betadine solution (not scrub). Dilute 1 part betadine with 10 parts water. You can look up YouTube videos on dry docking. You also need to review all of your husbandry to make sure you are doing everything 100% correct - water temperature, diet, lighting, etc. If she is not eating or is not responding to treatment at home you will need to get her to a vet. My tortoise has red fluid or blood on its shell. Is it an emergency?
That redness may indicate severe infection. Cooper needs to be physically examined by your veterinarian or an experienced herp vet as soon as possible. If infection is confirmed, she can be started on antibiotics immediately.
