My bearded dragon isn't eating and losing weight. Is it parasites?

Hello my name is Desiree and my questions are about my bearded dragon she’s not eating and losing a lot of weight, I don’t have a vet and every search I do they say to take her to a vet and ask them to do a fecal test is that an expensive test? Does she probably have parasites? Please help me out I really will appreciate your help, thank you

Hi Desiree, yes it is very possible she could have parasites. It is also possible that she has metabolic bone disease. Those would be the two most common things. The first step is to get a diagnosis so you know how to treat her. This vet clinic is very close to your zip code and they do see reptiles. Unfortunately, not everything can be fixed at home. You will definitely need a vet for her.

Without a physical exam, we can't determine if Biscuit is dying. Ideally, she should be physically examined or rechecked by your veterinarian or a vet experienced in treating reptiles. Submit a stool sample to diagnose intestinal parasites.
You should also confirm proper environmental parameters, especially temperature. Low temps can affect appetite and digestion in reptiles. Gut load all prey for 24 hours prior to offering to maximize nutritional value. This can be done by feeding prey a combination of tropical fish flakes or high protein baby cereal and fresh fruits and vegetables. Don't forget to dust prey with a powdered multivitamin supplement as well.
Pick up some Fluker's Repta-Boost at Petco. Use it to get calories and hydration into her in addition to her regular diet.

I am sorry drac is not feeling well. Our biggest concern would be metabolic bone disease. This is where reptiles have soft or weak bones which predisposes them to breaking there limbs. However it is possible drac has an infection, parasites or viral disease. I would recommend taking him to a veterinarian as soon as possible for a good exam to help determine the cause and provide more direct treatment

Since this has been going on a long time, a veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide diagnostic/treatment plan. Try offering water and food via a syringe prior to the vet appointment.
