Is this baby turtle I found a water or land turtle? It has bumps.

Thank you for your question, and thank you for the pictures! I would recommend taking this turtle back to where it was found, and placing it on the side of the road that it was trying to get to. It may have just been moving around in its territory when it was found. This would be the best course of action for the turtle, so that it can be part of the wild population and hopefully make little turtle babies in the future! It is so important to leave these guys in the wild because their population numbers are declining. Every turtle being back out in the wild will help! Hi, you’re right, the lumps are difficult to see in the photos. Lumps on or in a turtle shell can be from a number of things. There can be an underlying metabolic issue like metabolic bone disease (lack of UVB light and imbalance of calcium/phosphorus), or pyramiding, which can be from high protein and low humidity. Infections (bacteria, fungus, some parasites) can also cause shell lumps. Because these issues are all so different, it’s important to have Cookie examined by a veterinarian so they can do some tests and get her on the best treatment, if indicated. Good luck!

Those are a pair of yellow belly sliders. They are common throughout your state. Returning them to the spot you found them or to the nearest body of water would be recommended as well. If you plan on keeping them, check local, state and federal wildlife laws first. Care of this species is identical to its cousin, the red eared slider. I would love to help you identify the turtle, but it would help to have three photos (sharp) : top of carapace, bottom of carapace (belly) and from the side with the head extended (out, not hiding). It would also help to know the name of the area where it was found. It may be a Negev tortoise or one of the other two species of land tortoises: the Mediterranean spur-thighed tortoise, the most common turtle in Israel and the much rarer Egyptian tortoise, a desert species.

Hello. This is a common Red Eared Slider & there is a ton of information available online, in books & at pet stores on the proper care of these turtles. Please inform yourself the best you can to give this little guy the best chance possible to have a long life. They can make very good pets.
