Why does my green spotted puffer's stomach change color? Is it sick?

Hi, so I got a green spotted puffer from Walmart about a month ago but recently I noticed how his stomach goes a spotted dark gray but as soon as I pay attention to him it turns white yet when I stop and leave then come back it's grey again. I just don't understand if he's sick or not?

If he is eating normally I wouldn't be overly concerned. The only time I would be concerned is if his color was changing to black or brown.

Now, that being said, the biggest problem with these fish getting sick is incorrect husbandry. So, be absolutely certain that you have the tank set up correctly, water is correct, you are feeding the right diet, etc.....

Why does my leopard gecko turn dark then yellow with a tummy spot?

The color change may be due to stress or low temps. The dot could be liver or gall bladder. If he is behaving, eating and defecating normally, there is likely no cause for concern. Check enclosure temperatures and adjust if necessary. Monitor the spot for any change and monitor his demeanor. See your veterinarian or an experienced herp vet for an exam if necessary.

Darken scales can also be a result of poor nutrition or some metabolic concerns. Since he is sitting on the bottom of the cage, it is concerning that he is sick. This looks like hyperpigmentation. It typically occurs in lightly pigmented, sparsely haired regions as dogs get older. It can also be caused my inflammation so just make sure she is not spending too much time sunbathing and that there are no other signs like licking/scratching/lesions. My baby turtle won't eat and his belly looks blue. What's wrong?

Thanks for reaching out about Patrisha and including a photo. The dark spot on the plastron is probably due to the thin shell and internal organs underneath. Hemorrhage under the shell can also appear like this. Check and correct husbandry especially water and environmental temperature. A veterinary visit could help assist with diagnosis and treatment.
