My bristlenose fish have camallanus worms. Can eggs get infected?

Thanks for reaching out about your aquarium. Fenbendazole can be dangerous to use. The likely worms are not parasitic but commensals living in the detritus of the substrate. When doing water changes, try vacuuming the gravel/bottom, as this is likely where the eggs are hatching. Try controlling in this manner prior to adding chemicals/drugs. Thanks for reaching out. These appear to be Camallanus worms which are not parasitic but feed on detritus in the tank. Probably brought in by a live plant or invertebrate. It is not uncommon to get external parasites living in aquariums. For example anchor worms are really common and will bury into the fish leaving a white trail hanging out. I would suggest changing 70% water to reduce parasite and eggs, clean your filter and then treat the water with bettafix or bettazing which helps to kill parasites. Be careful you arent overfeedibg as this can encourage parasites.

I'm sorry to hear all happened! I bet you both and Prince were traumatized!!! The good news is that tapeworms are only spread by eating a flea that has eaten a baby tapeworm. So your wife cannot get tapeworms unless she eats a flea. Visceral or ocular larval migrans come from a intestinal worm called a Roundworm. These infestations can occur if the roundworm egg is eaten (aka not washing hands after handling Prince or cleaning the litter box, potentially letting Prince lick your mouth). The eggs would not be likely to develope in the eye BUT you should thoroughly flush out her eye and I would call her doctor to make sure they do not have any additional recommendations. Bacteria could be present and cause other problems. If the worm larva migrate to the eye, it will cause blindness. Additionally, I would recommend to have a fecal test run on Prince and appropriate deworming medication administered. Also, get Prince on flea prevention as this is where he got the tapeworms. It is possible for tapeworm eggs to survive months after being passed by your pet but they then require an additional 'intermediate' host before reinfecting your pet dog or cat. The most common type is passed through fleas and these can last for over a year before developing fully (other rarer types are passed through raw meat including rodents etc if cats catch mice). It is helpful to get your vet to confirm the type of tapeworm in order to understand the cycle of infection - using an insecticidal household flea spray is essential to break the flea/tapeworm life cycle

Planaria are notoriously difficult to completely remove from an aquarium. You can perform a thorough vacuuming of the gravel or substrate followed by a 30% water change every few days. Use only conditioned water that is temperature matched to prevent stress or shock to tank inhabitants. Fenbendazole or praziquantel can also be used during this process. Since you are overseas, you can also look for a product called "Planaria Zero" that is supposed to be quite effective. It contains extract of betel nut which is toxic to planaria. Use caution with any medications if you have snails or shrimp in the tank.

Those look like they could be worm eggs. It could also be something he is eating off the floor or a toy. I recommend to have the stool examined by the veterinarian and bring in a few of those balls you are finding in his bed. This will give you the best, most accurate and fastest answer.
