What fish can I put in a tank with my Bass that it won't eat?

It is very difficult to see the markings of these fish from the pictures. Many fish may be able to live with a Betta if there is a large enough tank. Thanks for reaching out about your arowana. These are tough fish to co-habitat in an aquarium as they tend to eat other fish and can be territorial. Introduced fish must be large enough to not appear as prey and not too timid, or will hide and not compete for food. This readily depend on how large your arowana is at present. Good luck.

All these fish can grow quite large. The loach would be the "smallest" at about 6 to 8 inches when full grown. The Oscars can reach lengths of 18 inches and the Texas cichlid and sharks can reach a foot in length. All these fish will require much larger tanks than the ones you have now. The three Oscars alone would do best in a 125 gallon aquarium MINIMUM. The others may thrive in 55 to 75 gallon tanks. To leave them in small tanks will cause stress, aggression and likely infection.

I am assuming you would like to know which fish that feeds on the bottom to add to your aquarium with a betta? There are several possibilities, most will depend on the size of your fish tank. You could get a small school of Corydoras which are bottom feeders and are best kept in schools of 5+. A CLOWN PLECO (PANAQOLUS MACCUS) is another good choice, however it will grow to about 4 inches in size, so you may need to have a larger tank eventually. Clown plecos are armoured fish and so the betta cannot really hurt them. Loaches are another choice, but only if you have a larger aquarium as they will grow quite big.

Males are much smaller than females. Males will reach sexual maturity between 3-4 years of age, females won't be ready until they are 5-6 years of age. You can check the vent of the fish. Males will have an oblong opening while the females will be more circular. In the springtime, mature females will become fat with roe (eggs). During this time of year, you can gentle massage the abdomen of an adult fish, if a milky substance comes out then you have a male. This is its sperm.
