Is it safe to put other fish with my male betta without aggression?

I assume it is a male Beta? They typically are very aggressive and will kill other Fish. You could try to put a divider in the tank to keep them separate. I have seen those at most pet stores. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.

Male Bettas should be housed alone as they can be quite aggressiv, especially to other male Bettas. He's not lonely. He is likely seeing the fish and displaying at them in the hopes that they will swim away. Watch Thomas closet and you will see him flaring his gills and fins out as he stares them down. It looks quite comical, but to him, it's serious business "guarding" his territory.

Betta are definitively very territorial and you may notice multiple fights for space at the beginning. Definitively the aquarium must have multiple spots for hiding like Terra Cotta Flowerpots and PVC Piping, moss or bushy plants, ornaments, rocks and driftwoods. This will avoid open fights and will provide good places to have some rest.

It is very difficult to see the markings of these fish from the pictures. Many fish may be able to live with a Betta if there is a large enough tank. Here are some guidelines on how to pick tabkmates for a Betta. No nibblers – if a fish nibbles at a Betta fish they will get bit back! Bigger fish and colorful fish could be seen to be intimidating – you don’t want to intimidate a fighting fish! A male Betta can be kept in a 10 gallon tank with 5-6 neon tetras. You will need to monitor for any aggression initially as well as for any fin nipping. Male Bettas are easy to distinguish from females by their brighter colors and larger fins.

It is better to use coarse small rocks instead of sand and in general it would be better to get them from the store where they come already clean and free of other organisms which may affect the environment of the tank.
