If pododermatitis is related to an environmental allergy, wiping the feet with a washcloth every time your pet comes in from going outdoors can help limit exposure to allergens. I also sometimes recommend soaking the feet in warm water with some Epsom salts. Many times antibiotics or antifungals are necessary so if Buster's feet are very red or painful or if you notice sores you should see your veterinarian.

Good question. I recommend washing and soaking her feet in an antifungal shampoo, or a dilute iodine solution (that may cause fur discoloration). I would do this once daily for a week or so. If it’s not improving please take her on for an exam. They may do skin cytology to determine if it’s yeast only or if there is bacteria or mites adding to the problem. Try soaking it in some warm water with Epsom salt if he will allow it-- this is easiest to do by putting the water and epsom salt in a plastic bag and putting his paw into the plastic bag. If you can do this for about 10 minutes or so, that may help if he has any debris , sticker, grass seed, etc that is embedded in the skin. If he is licking at it, be sure to put an Ecollar (cone of shame) on him. It would be hard to say what the cause is without having a sample of the affected area taken. Your vet can do this and have it cultured to determine if it is yeast or bacterial in cause which can provide a more targeted treatment. In the meantime, keeping the paws clean and dry is the best course of action as this can help minimize yeast and bacterial growth, especially between the toes where they thrive on moisture. Placing an Elizabethan (cone) collar on Val can also help keep her from licking which can introduce more moisture and bacteria.

This condition does not cause any major problems and is more of a cosmetic problem. You can try and file the overgrown pad by using a dremmel (I recommend having a veterinarian or veterinary technician do this) and then try to help prevent this from occurring by using dog booties and BioBalm by Dermoscent (can be found online). This could be caused by an injury, an infection (fungal or bacterial), allergies, or a nutritional deficiency. She should see her vet for this problem to diagnose what is causing it, but it's not an emergency so you can wait until tomorrow. Clean the paw pad, and examine it closely to see if there is any foreign material in it. When you clean it, use warm water and an antibacterial soap. Apply a bandage, and make sure it's not too tight. Put a sock over her foot and bandage to protect the bandage and to keep her from chewing at it. You can secure the sock to her leg with some medical tape. Keep the area clean and dry, and take her into the vet tomorrow. Best of luck.

But if that is the only feet and pads that look like that it could be an injury. I would use an E-collar to prevent further licking and chewing.
