How dangerous are wolf spiders to dogs? What if my dog gets bitten?

If you believe Tiny was bitten by a Wolf Spider, you would need to take him into a vet right away for treatment. Personally I'm not sure if baby Wolf Spiders are even worse, they may not be a venomous as adults.

If it is a bug bite, the swelling should go down after a few hours. If it does not, I would be more worried about a skin tumor or an infection. Keep Scruffy from licking the area by having him wear an elizabethan collar at all times. Have him examined by the veterinarian if the swelling persists. Depending on the spider that bit Rocco, he may need antibiotics, steroids and antihistamines to prevent the skin from being necrotic (dying off) and systemic bacteria (bacteria floating in the bloodstream which can be life threatening) from developing. i would suggest cleaning it with Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water for tonight if a vet visit is just absolutely not possible. This will help provide some topical antiseptic cleansing of the wound. Take special care not to get any of this in his eyes. Then getting Rocco seen by a vet first thing in the morning to get this area looked at and treated appropriately. Hi Kelly, Are you 100% sure he was bitten? Hunstman spiders rarely bite. They do possess some venom, and if bitten, the area around the bite may get inflamed and/or infected. Symptoms vary depending on the type of spider and amount of venom released when bitten. I doubt the spider had enough of the toxin on it for it to be toxic to your puppy. If he was going to show symptoms from this type of toxicity they usually start within one hour of ingestion. If he is showing no symptoms I would not be worried. There is nothing you can do at this point but wait to see if he gets ill. It really depends on the location, severity and the clinical signs associated with the bite. If the bite is on his body and he is otherwise acting normal, you could clean the area with an antiseptic wound cleaner and apply an OTC topical antibiotic. He might need an oral antibiotic to prevent infection, an anti-inflammatory, and/or some pain medications and your vet could prescribe. Some dogs get bit in the mouth and it can cause drooling, vomiting, diarrhea and may require treatment to help stop the vomiting and diarrhea. Poor Tiny! I would be very concerned that she was attacked by a wild animal, and she should see a vet immediately. That's because wild animals carry diseases that can infect dogs, and she should have a booster of her rabies vaccine to be safe. In addition, she will need pain meds, and she should have her wounds treated. The vet can also check her over for internal injuries. Please bring her into a vet now.
