What size wire crate for a 15-pound Dachshund: small or medium?

Great question! I highly recommend Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, or Eukanuba brands of dog food. These four brands have veterinary nutritionists on staff to make sure the food is formulated for a dog's nutritional needs. I personally feed my pets Royal Canin, so I would recommend giving Lucky Royal Canin toy breed adult dog food. I hope this helps!

So a crate should be big enough for them to stand up and turn around. It is usually a pretty tight turn but they can still turn around in it. If she can't turn around at all then yes, you need to get a bigger crate. If you are just worried she won't be comfortable then you can go up in size. Just keep in mind that in order to crate train a dog you don't want the crate to be too big. If it is too big, they will be tempted to pee/poop on one side and sleep on the other size. Thanks for visiting Petcoach. What a cute dog and a nice mix of breeds. The 36 inch crate should be plenty big for him. He will likely either be moms weight or somewhere in between mom or dad. There is no way unfortunately to know for sure; however, you can almost bet that his weight at 4 months times 2, is going to be his adult weight. So use this as a guide. The oatmeal shampoo is ok to use. I personally like the Duoxo gentle shampoo line, if you want to look into another very reputable product. The brush should be a longer semi firm brush. You don't have to get specific when it comes to brands here. They are all relatively the same and will serve the same purpose. Go to your local pet store and ask one of the representatives for a semi-firm brush to choose from. Both these breeds have several health concerns that come to mind, including heart disease, joint problems, hip dysplasia and dental disease. A crate or crate training is never a bad idea. It can also serve as a safe place for Bella (as you have stated). It doesn't need to be huge either, just big enough for her to lay down, turn around and stand. Make sure there are no sharp edges and that the bars are close enough together so she cannot get her head between them.

I generally recommend crate training for bigger dogs for house training as it helps establish a routine and a safe space for them. Make sure the crate is big enough for him to stand up and turn around but not much bigger than that. Try to keep to a schedule in terms of taking him outside, feeding him, and putting him in the crate every day. Huskies can be kind of vocal so he may protest a little bit at first. Having the radio or TV on to provide some background noise may help make him feel less alone.

Dachshunds tend to be snugglers, and also love to be buried (like under a blanket!). I'd look into a dog bed (or even a large cat bed) that has a [clamshell or hooded design]() that she can crawl into and be covered up by it.
