What's the best crate size for an adult German Shepherd I'm adopting?

However, keep in mind that they are high energy dogs so it will be crucial to ensure regular exercise and daily walks. For example, it would be good to at least give him 1 hour of playing/exercise time daily which may include long walks for instance. Generally, when picking up a new pup I just recommend to go with the puppy that appears to be the happiest to see you. Also, it is important to make sure the puppy seems happy and healthy which is why it is recommended to have them evaluated by a veterinarian after picking them up. Good luck! I use the large breed adult food from 9 months on. I like the dogs to grow a little slower to prevent bone problems. Soska will reach her full size but it will just take a little longer with less bone and joint issues. It seems she might need a small kennel. There should only be enough room for her to stand up and turn a complete circle. Any other room then they tend to soil in one area and lay in another so they do not get dirty. Puppies tend to get distracted easily and may find playing and exploring outside more important than going to the bathroom. I would start taking her out on leash and staying close by you reward her with treats as she goes in the correct place.

So a crate should be big enough for them to stand up and turn around. It is usually a pretty tight turn but they can still turn around in it. If she can't turn around at all then yes, you need to get a bigger crate. If you are just worried she won't be comfortable then you can go up in size. Just keep in mind that in order to crate train a dog you don't want the crate to be too big. If it is too big, they will be tempted to pee/poop on one side and sleep on the other size. Hello! I recommend feeding a diet that has been established for a long time and has undergone feeding trials and follows AAFCO nutrition standards. Purina, Royal Canin, Hill's, and Iams are all examples of good brands. I would avoid any raw, grain free, other "fad" diets as their lack of scientific evidence often leads to chronic nutritional deficiencies in senior pets that are fed these diets long term.
