My Welsh terrier has pancreatitis. Are they prone to this disease?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Welsh Terrier | Female | spayed | 2 years and 1 month old

3 year old Welsh terrier female diagnosed with pancreatitis. Vet told us that the breed is particularly susceptible to this disease yet I can find no reference to this anywhere online? Your opinion please. Thank you.

Hello

Terriers in general can be predisposed to pancreatitis. This includes West Highland Terrier's, schnauzers, and mix breed Terriers. I would discuss with your veterinarian if they feel anything can be done to prevent future episodes. Sometimes changing their diet to something that is low in fat or even a prescription intestinal diet helps prevent future flare ups.
