Should I vaccinate my puppy if she has a leg injury or sprain?

I am sorry Oka is not feeling well. You are correct dogs can get soft tissue injury from trauma just like people. However I would recommend taking her to the vet to make sure nothing is broken. Oka could have a hair line fracture/broken bone that is also causing pain. The vet can also give you pain medication that will keep Oka comfortable and safe. Hope that helps

Hi there! My goodness, Angel sure is cute! :) It sounds like Angel's muscle is sore from the injection. I would not be seriously worried about it but I be worried enough to have the vet that gave the vaccine recheck her. There is a nerve in the leg that may be affected that the vet should check. It could be a sprain, but given that he is a young puppy, I would recommend having him checked out by a vet. You want to make sure it is just a sprain, instead of something more serious like a fracture of torn ligament which could affect his growth. I would rest him for now, no running, jumping, or playing. Take him out to toilet on a lead only, and bring him right back in when done. Take him into the vet on Monday for an exam to be safe.

Usually the pain only lasts a few days. I find massaging the area helps them to feel better, also taking her for several short leash walks usually relaxed the muscle soreness that is probably causing the lameness. If the limp continues more than a few days please bring her in for an exam as that would be unusual from a vaccination and they will want to find the reason for the lameness. That should not interfere at all with the vaccine. So if she is well enough and there is no fracture vaccination can be given. I'm so sorry that Zeke is painful after his vaccination. Unfortunately, pain at the injection site is a possible side effect of vaccinations and some small dogs tend to become achy and painful all over. I would recommend contacting your veterinarian. There are some prescription pain medications that can be very helpful in decreasing pain and inflammation associated with vaccination. I will typically use Metacam which works very well. You may also ask your veterinarian if Zeke should have pain medication in the future before his vaccinations, so he does not have this problem again. Good luck!
