At what age can my unvaccinated puppy safely swim in a pool?

That's a very good question. Honestly, I might ask your vet why they recommended that. I can't think of any reason that a puppy can't swim except for safety reasons. I used a lifevest for my puppy when he was young to be safe and NEVER allowed him unsupervised or with any other dogs. But I think it's a great idea for puppies to be exposed to swimming and is a great way for them to burn off some extra energy. Congrats on your new baby! I hope that was helpful! Congratulations on your new puppy! Red can interact with other dogs when he has had all of core vaccines which include rabies, bordetella (kennel cough) and a combination distemper vaccine. His rabies vaccine can be given after he is 12 weeks old and he should receive at least three distemper vaccines (usually given at 6, 9, and 12 weeks). Thank you for submitting your question regarding your puppy. It would be safest to bathe him at home until he is fully vaccinated. This would limit his risk of acquiring any infectious diseases. If you really want to take him, then I recommend carrying him into the facility. Place him in the tub, bathe him and then carry him out of the store. Do not allow him to interact with other dogs or go to the bathroom outside the store where other dogs go. Many infectious diseases are spread through the feces. I hope this information helps!

For his own safety and the safety of other dogs, it would be best to wait until he has received his complete first year round of vaccines including the second parvovirus vaccine which usually is given at around 4-5 months of age though that depends on when they received the first set of vaccines. No, it would not be a good idea to put him in the water until he is much older. Since they are not good swimmers at that age is it very easy for them to choke on water. That water can get in the lungs and can also cause pneumonia. His lungs are already compromised from his last bout of pneumonia. Salt water is especially bad. It is best to wait until he is an adult to put him in the water.

What a little cutie she is. I would recommend not taking Bailey out on public beaches or parks or anywhere where other dogs may be until she has received her full series of vaccines, usually completed between 16 to 20 weeks of age. Until she is fully vaccinated she'll be susceptible to parvovirus or distemper, etc. these viruses can live in the environment not just direct contact with another dog so for her protection I'd make sure she's fully vaccinated before you take her out and about to much.

Unfortunately, Maximus is not fully vaccinated at this point, so he should not be going outside. Depending on your state, he can be fully vaccinated by 12 or 16 weeks. If this was his first round of shots, he will need a booster in 2-4 weeks and then his Rabies vaccine at 12-16 weeks as well as his last booster. Maximus should have minimal contact with other dogs (even where other dogs have gone to the bathroom) as you can’t be sure they are not carrying any of the viruses that Maximus is not vaccinated for that can make him very sick. I know it is difficult to keep a large active puppy inside, but your vet can work with you to have Maximus fully vaccinated in a reasonable amount of time.
