What's the best way to get two puppies: at once or separately?

Male and female combinations may get along better BUT many households have single sex pets and absolutely no problems. The biggest factor is individual personality. Jack Russels are very high energy dogs that require a lot of attention and exercise. If you have the time to devote to both dogs to meet their training, attention, and exercise needs, then there's no reason why you can't get this dog.

Personally, I like an age gap of around 2-3 years between dogs if possible. This allows you to get your current dog through his puppyhood and adolescence with plenty of time and attention, training, etc. before you add another puppy, but he should still be young and active enough at the age of 2-3 years to enjoy running and playing with the new pup.

I see no reason why you could not adopt two 8 week old puppies at the same time. As a matter of fact they will not be so lonely when they come to their new home. They can comfort each other and I think they will be much better socialised with other dogs and people if they grow up together. No, you do not have to rehome one of them. Make sure they are wormed every two weeks until the age of three months and get fed good quality brandname complete puppy food for toy breeds and get the full course of vaccinations (3-4 rounds of vaccinations, depending on when vaccinations are started).

This would likely be a great idea! Most puppies get along with other puppies. If you have friends with other friendly dogs, you may try to see how she does around them first. Once you find a dog you want to adopt, you may ask the rescue if you can do a meet and greet and see if they get along before adopting the new dog. Also, if you do adopt a new dog, I would not leave them alone without supervision for a little while until you are confident that they will get along. Bruno won't be fully mature physically and emotionally until he is at least 18 months to two years of age. That's because large breed dogs mature slower than the smaller breeds of dogs. But that doesn't mean you can't get a puppy now, and I would recommend having Bruno neutered before getting another dog. Unneutered dogs can and do become very territorial and aggressive when intact dogs enter their home, and that can cause a lot of problems for you to deal with daily. In addition, if you get a female, this can lead to unwanted puppies when she goes into heat. GSDs are a very active breed, and if you have the time and energy to give both dogs all the exercise, attention, and training they need, there is no reason why you can't get another GSD.
