Should I get a female puppy if I already have an older female dog?

As a generality, male-female pairings of dogs are typically more likely to get along than same-sex pairings. However, this rule does not hold true for every pair of dogs and the pairing of two dogs is based largely on the individual temperament of each. It tends to work best if both dogs are fixed (as I see that Allie has been spayed) because there are fewer hormonal-associated dominance issues. If you prefer adding a female dog, go for it! Just make sure that Allie first meets her new friend on relatively neutral ground (such as at a park) to try to avoid any territorial problems that may initially arise, even though it sounds as though Allie is quite passive and submissive. For at least the first few weeks of having a new dog in your home, be sure that all interactions between the dogs are supervised and do not leave them alone together while you are gone. This can be a difficult question to answer because it will vary from dog to dog. The dog's personality will determine whether or not they adjust well to a new housemate. It does not necessarily matter whether the dog is older or younger. Some things you can do in the home when introducing new dogs are keeping the interactions very limited and making sure the dogs are under supervision the whole time they are getting to know each other. Also avoid feeding the dogs or giving them treats while they are together as this can sometimes cause aggressive behavior. Hi, you have quite a collection of animals! I would not advise a puppy because your animals are older and a puppy can be too much stress for them. A puppy can seem to tolerate older animals then reach sexual maturity and challenge the older animals of the house. I suggest going to your local shelter and bringing your dogs to meet some possible candidates. i suggest any age over 2-3 and spayed or neutered already. Try some visits and see how the new dog will react to the animals you have. Also have the shelter to a cat test to make sure the new dog won't chase them. There are plenty of adult dogs who need homes with excellent temperaments. Good luck, i hope this helps!.

I normally recommend getting only one puppy at a time - so in your case, I would get the first puppy and wait until he's a year old or so to add another pup to your household. This way, you can concentrate on socialization, housetraining, basic obedience, etc. for each puppy individually. It's very hard to give two puppies at once as much attention as they need at this age! And yes, I would recommend getting a female puppy next if you already have a male. Male/female pairs are more likely to get along well vs. two males.

I am not sure what species of pet you are referring to, but I don't see why the sex of a pet matters whether they will get along or not. The personality of the pets is the most determining factor as to if they will get along or not.

This would likely be a great idea! Most puppies get along with other puppies. If you have friends with other friendly dogs, you may try to see how she does around them first. Once you find a dog you want to adopt, you may ask the rescue if you can do a meet and greet and see if they get along before adopting the new dog. Also, if you do adopt a new dog, I would not leave them alone without supervision for a little while until you are confident that they will get along. I would also not feed them together or give them bones as this can increase the competition feeling. I hope this helps!
