How does turmeric affect dog inflammation and blood glucose levels?

There are really no scientific studies demonstrating efficacy of tumeric for conditions in dogs, but there is some information about it helping with gastritis, parasites and liver disease with mice. However, the dose used was 500mg/kg, which is a lot of tumeric. Without there being any good information about its use or the recommended dosage, I cannot recommend it for allergies. It's a very safe spice to give, so you can always give it, but I can't say that it will do anything. Additionally, tumeric will not be nearly as effective as the prescription medications. I understand that the prescription medications can have some undesired side-effects, but Apoquel is a promising new drug with less side effects; so it looks like you are already giving him the best treatment. Another option is to have a skin and blood test to try and determine what he is allergic to. After this is done, an allergy shot can be formulated; which is about the most natural and effective thing you can do for allergies. Your vet or a veterinary dermatologist should be able to help you with this.

If you would like to feed Oscar tumeric, I recommend purchasing an organic turmeric from your local grocery store. While there are no published veterinary studies, it may have anti-inflammatory properties. I hope this is helpful!

I cannot find any specific contraindications between trilostane and tumeric, so either there are no problems using the two together, or nobody knows, because it's never been tested. Tumeric is occasionally used in animals to reduce inflammation associated with arthritis; however I have not heard of its specific use in treating Cushing's disease.

Very interesting question. I have not seen any studies in dogs about triglyceride levels with CBD or hemp oil, but salmon oil and omega 3 fatty acids have been shown to help reduce triglycerides, so the combination may actually be helpful. My dog is currently on a hemp oil based CBD, but I have not rechecked his triglycerides since he has been on it, so I don't know if it will make a difference. Unfortunately, we probably don't have enough experience with this product to tell you, but I would not expect it to raise triglyceride levels and it may actually help lower them. Good luck! Unfortunately for some dogs Apoquel does not prevent secondary infections. I think that culturing the skin the next time she gets an infection is a great idea, and she may also need a longer course of an antibiotic to completely eliminate the bacteria. You could ask your vet if they think topical therapy, like a medicated shampoo or mousse could help. While I don't think supplementing with turmeric would cause problems with the Apoquel, turmeric can thin the blood if enough is given and I would check in with your vet before starting this supplement. I would guess that the blood blisters are also secondary to the allergies. If Lola continues to suffer from monthly infections you may want to ask about referral to a dermatologist if there is one in your area.

I would not stop the benazepril. Unfortunately there is no scientific proof tumeric works, and leaving Lucy's CHF untreated would be awful for her. You can give it to her in addition to the benazepril.
