What are the best treats and feeding schedule for my 8-week-old puppy?

Hello. At this age, a puppy should be fed 3 times a day with limited treats. You can transition him to twice a day feedings somewhere between 16 - 20 weeks of age. As long as the food you choose is a well-balanced puppy food, such as Science Diet, Royal Canin or Purina, you can continue to feed Roman the canned, or a combination of canned & dry. Great question! At almost two months of age, Ooge is old enough to be fed a puppy formulated food. It has to be a puppy formulated food because puppies require higher amounts of protein, calcium, and calories than an adult dog. A puppy food will provide everything he needs to grow properly. Brands I recommend include Royal Canin, Hill's Science diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. On the bag, there is a daily recommended amount of food, and I would divide that into three equal portions to feed him three times a day, once in the morning, noon, and evening. Once he turns six months old, he can be fed twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. I hope this helps :-)

I understand how confusing it can be to read and obtain conflicting information. Since Wallace is only 2 months old and is so small, I generally recommend feeding at least 3-4 times per day. The purpose of more frequent feeding at a young age and small size is to maintain an adequate blood glucose (sugar) at all times. Very small, young dogs are at a risk of developing hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) that can lead to lethargy, weakness, or even seizures if they do not eat frequently. Continue feeding Wallace the same volume of food, but divide it into 3-4 meals per day rather than 2 for the next month or so. Around 5-6 months of age, you can decrease his feeding frequency to twice daily. Just remember to keep an eye on the chart that is found on your bag of food since the volume of food that Wallace will need will change as he gets older and larger. Hello, and congratulations on your new puppy! The most important thing is to feed Arjun a well-balanced commercial kibble designed for growth. Your Pedigree diet should cover that - just make sure that it is formulated for puppies. Beyond that, everything else is considered a treat (carrot, apples, egg, etc). All these treats should not total more than 10% of his total intake of food in a day, although you may feed more treats during this early stage of potty and obedience training. As for feeding times, I like to feed puppies 3 times a day at this age. Over the next month, you can reduce this frequency to 2 times a day. Each time, leave out a full bowl and let him eat as much as he wants. Then take away the dish after 15 minutes. This ensures that he eats until he is full, but ensures that he doesn't get bored of his food if it is available all the time. You should start giving more exact portions of food after the age of 6 months, as their growth will slow down significantly at this point and they will be more prone to becoming overweight.
