When should I transition my bottle-fed puppy from milk to food?

A puppy should get milk or an appropriate replacement until 3-4 weeks of age at which point you can begin to mix in some solid food. The milk can be used to make a slurry or gruel. The milk is gradually decreased until the pup is eating solid, dry food around 8 weeks of age.

At 3 weeks of age, you can actually start introducing wet puppy food. I would wet it down with some puppy milk and put it on a paper plate. This way he can explore the wet food and try some. If your veterinarian evaluated him and say he is physically ok then I would not worry too much that something is wrong. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! 3 weeks is young. I’d recommend a puppy milk replacer and bottle feeding for another week or 2. Then mix the puppy milk replacer in with canned puppy food and gradually add dry food over a couple of weeks. I like Purina proplan orhl’s puppy foods. Good luck!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Fendi can start eating puppy food. I recommend using canned food first then transitioning to dry puppy food. You may need to add water to the dry food to soften it up for her to eat. You can also add puppy milk to the food so she is familiar with the food. Hello. That is a lot of milk replacer to be using! Fortunately, you can completely stop using it as the puppies do not need it anymore. I would probably do only 1 milk feed a day for 2 days then 1 milk feed every other day for 2 additional feedings & then stop. Continue feeding the puppies 3 times a day, and if they seem very hungry once you stop the milk, add one more puppy food meal. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

It's fine to start introducing puppy food at this age, but it will take 2-3 weeks before they will start to wean off of milk. It's best to feed wet food at this age. If you have the dry dog biscuits, then you can add water to them to make them soft. It's best to only give a little at a time, or they can get diarrhea. I would start by only offering a teaspoon to each pup twice a day. It can be gradually increased from there.
