What foods are toxic to dogs and cats and what to do if poisoned?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Hi, I am an editorial apprentice for Allrecipes magazine based in Des Moines, Iowa, and I am working on compiling some information about hazardous foods to avoid feeding cats and dogs. I was hoping I could please be put in touch with a professional who could tell me the top 3 or 4 foods to avoid feeding cats and dogs, why these foods are hazardous to animals, and what to do if an animal is exhibiting signs of being poisoned/sick. Thanks for your time!

Yes I can be available to help you with that, but I would need specific informations regarding the type of food you need informations about.
Vegetables, fruits, chocolate, xylitol would be ok?

I can answer one by one to all listing the informations you need. Please specify it, and if you need me to answer to the questions please write my name next to the question on the forum.
